Final selection of ‘One Night of Madness’ to pick up on Dec.3

The Star-Herald will pick up with the final selection of Stokes McMillan’s “One Night of Madness” in the Dec. 3 edition.

The book chronicles the lives of several Newport and area families leading up to the murder of several members of a black family, the Harrises, at the hands Leon Turner and his accomplices in 1950.

The fourth chapter focuses on Attala County Sheriff Roy Braswell – how he became sheriff and his role in the events as a law enforcement officer.

The newspaper office has received numerous phone calls and emails about purchasing the book.

The author will be at the Attala County Library on Monday, Dec. 14 from 3-6 p.m. and will give a short talk followed by a book signing. He is also making stops on Dec. 15 at Durant Library from 10 a.m. to noon and the Goodman Library from 2:30-5 p.m., and on Dec. 16 Lemuria Bookstore in Jackson at 5 p.m. The book can be purchased at www.amazon.com or StokesMcMillan.com
