HCC representative speaks on flourishing Attala branch

By Leslie N. Dees

Cindy Heilbronner with the Holmes Community College’s Attala branch spoke to the Attala County Board of Supervisors about all the activities going on at the Attala Educational Building.

Enrollment continues to grow at the HCC branch in Attala County because of the economy, she said noting that people were cutting down on expenses.

For that reason the number of online classes are also growing.

Heilbronner touched on the Next Step program that aids potential HCC students with tutoring to obtain their GED or high school diploma.

The program also helps them find financial aid and keeps them motivated.

The board approved the following:

–School bus turnarounds for Walter Cauthen, Peggy Colletta, Carolyn Dees, Keith Jones, David and Jimmie Kerr, Donald Lee and the McGarrity family. Others pending approval, due to lack of paper work are: Stephanie Allen, Melvin Beach, Michelle Dees and David Roos.

–Release Tommy Prewitt from his 16th Section land lease.

–Amend the copy machine lease with Mid South Copier Systems Inc. for the tax collector’s office.

–Stop payment on a lost check to Mid-South Truck and Trailer.

–Advertise for bids on the Attala County Courthouse renovations.

–Travel for the election commissioners to receive training.

–Dues to Circuit Clerk’s Association for $500.

–Holiday schedule for county officers. They will be closed Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
