WKOZ announce new format

Special to The Star Herald

Kosciusko’s heritage radio station, 1340 WKOZ, is now 1340-The Groove, giving adult audiences in Attala County an exciting new source for old-school R&B and classic soul. Johnny Boswell, president of Boswell Media, LLC., the parent company of WKOZ, announced the move this week.

“This format reflects the entertainment and informational needs of the adult audience in Attala County,” said Boswell. “This decision is in line with our vision for serving the community in several ways. Kosciusko is home to a Mississippi Blues Trail Marker in honor of Charlie Musselwhite, Coot Harmon and Taft “Junior” Hawthorne. This format will showcase some of the musical heritage of Central Mississippi.”

He said the station will feature 24 hour music programming, covering three decades of music, showcasing artists like Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, Peabo Bryson, R. Kelly, Teddy Pendergrass and Anita Baker.

Boswell said the station will carry entertaining programs such as Pat LeBlanc’s “Southern Crossroads”, a roots music show that features Mississippi blues artists. The program will air Sundays at 6 p.m. In addition, Kosciusko’s award-winning Breezynews broadcasts can be heard weekdays at 6, 7, 8 and 9 a.m., plus noon, 1, 5 and 6 p.m.

For those who enjoy conservative talk, commentator Mike Huckabee can be heard on Breezy101, WLIN, three times a day, at 7:50 a.m., noon, and 5:20 p.m.

Boswell Media operates three radio stations, covering a large audience in Kosciusko, Carthage and Philadelphia. WKOZ-The Groove has sister stations WLIN-Breezy101 and WCKK-Kicks98.
