Plan for school clinics presented to ACS board

By Leslie N. Dees

Nurse practitioner Cynthia Dean, who has independently set up clinics at Greenlee Elementary and Ethel High School, presented a plan for setting up clinics for Long Creek Elementary and McAdams High School to the Attala County School Board Monday night.

Dean said she has looked for another practitioner to independently set up clinics over the last two years without success.

The plan presented to the board would be at the school district expense until the clinics could pay for themselves and the registered nurse and a certified nurses assistant’s salaries would come from the school district as well.

The clinic could pay for itself within a year due reimbursements through Medicaid and other programs.

The board agreed to take a look at other schools’ health care facilities.

The board approved the following:

– Maintenance agreement with Central Heating and Cooling.

– Cheryl Cunningham as a cafeteria worker at Greenlee and accepted the resignation of Pepper Bishop.

– Bus easements for Brian Rone, Martin Latiker, Louise Burchfield, Johnny Barksdale, Ike Lusk, Clara Hill, Ardys Winters, Jack Gwin, Carolyn Dees and Mevelyn Hunt.

– Pumpkin patch field trips for some Greenlee students.

– All maintenance and school buses as well as the driver’s education vehicle to remain on school grounds unless in use.
