City scores comparable with others

By Leslie N. Dees

Kosciusko City Schools Superintendent David Sistrunk said KCS schools fair well with other Level 5, 4A schools in comparing test scores. Several of the comparison schools used were in Northeast Mississippi.

“Our teachers and kids worked hard,” Sistrunk said.

Sistrunk said students did exceptionally well in Biology and all schools except the high school meet Average Yearly Progress (AYP).

There are still alot of things to get use to and work on, he added.

Students took a new second version of the Mississippi Curriculum Test this year.

The MCT2 is administered to students in third through eighth grade and includes two sections: mathematics and language arts.

The Algebra I and English II Subject Area Tests, which are administered the first time to students as they complete the courses, were also designed to reflect the increased rigor of the curriculum.

Sistrunk, who is also a state school board member, said no accreditation levels will be announced this year but look for them next year.

For complete test scores see next week’s edition.
