Harmon gets 30 years for uncle's death

Michael Harmon, 31, entered a guilty plea to manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on Tuesday, Sept. 2, receiving 30 years in prison.

Harmon had originally been charged with murder in the shooting death of his uncle, Johnny D. Winters that occurred in December.

Winters had been shot in the left side of the rib cage and there had been an altercation between Winters and Harmon before the shooting occurred.

Harmon, who was out on parole after serving time for a drive-by shooting at the time of the murder, under went mental evaluations and treatment as granted by Judge Joseph Loper during the March Circuit Court term.



Miller lands back in jail

Frederick B. Miller Jr., 18, received a six months sentence for fleeing a law enforcement officer in a motor vehicle.

Miller, who was released in May after serving time for accessory to murder after the fact in the slaying of McAdams High School Basketball Coach Chad Jackson, know has to serve three years and six months revoked probation.



Marijuana grower sentenced

David Lynn Salers, 54, will spend time with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Salers entered in a plea of guilty on manufacturing pot and received five years in prison with five years probation and $500 fine.

He was arrested by the Attala County Sheriff’s Department after they confiscated approximately 30 marijuana plants from a shed at Salers’ Veterans Memorial Drive home in April. They also found heat lamps, a vent system, surveillance camera system and other items used in the manufacturing of marijuana.



Other plea agreements

– Jaclyn Wilson; credit card fraud; one year and one day to serve; one year and 364 days supervised probation; second fraud charge dropped.

– Michael A. Lewis; burglary of a building other than a dwelling and grand larceny, eight months; $500 fine; five years supervised probation.

– Otis Bolton; misdemeanor burglary of a building; five months in Attala County Jail with time served.

– Joe T. Coleman Sr.; four counts of false pretense (bad checks); three months, 21 days to serve; $500 fine; two years post release supervision.

– Charles Deere; felony driving under the influence; one year house arrest; four years probation; $2,000 fine.

– Calvin Millender; embezzlement; six months suspended; restitution.

– Vernon Tripplett Jr.; burglary of a building other than a dwelling; five years probation; restitution.

– Jamey Hutchinson; aggravated assault; two years to serve; five years probation

– Chrisitie Halderman; four counts uttering forgery; five years probation; $500 fine; restitution.

– Robert Barksdale; possession of cocaine; two years to serve; five years probation; $500 fine.

– Truevane Gibson Jr.; possession of marijuana; three years probation; $500 fine.

– Keshia Willis; embezzlement; no-adjudication; restitution.

– Jamont Hughes; criminal information; five years supervised probation; fines; originally charged with auto burglary.
