Supervisors remember Belk’s legacy

By Leslie N. Dees

The Attala County Board of Supervisors presented a resolution in honor of the late Dewitte Belk to his wife, Doris, at the beginning of their board meeting on Monday.

They recognized the contributions Dewitte made to the community and his service on the Holmes Community College Board. Dewitte died in late April of a sudden illness.

Doris, who has assumed Dewitte’s seat on the HCC board, thanked the board for honoring his memory and work in the county.

The board approved the following:

– School bus turnaround for A.J. Johnson

– Sixteenth Section release for Dan Oakes

– Reject the bids for painting the Attala County Coliseum and re-advertise.

– Board attorney Scott Pickle to look into a property tax exemption for Jaken Industries.

– Purchase a Caterpiller motograter for over $180,000.
