ACSD make arrests in May burglaries

The Attala County Sheriff’s Department has made three arrests in the two May burglaries at Hilltop Grocery on Highway 12 near Ethel recently.

Sheriff William Lee said George Edwards Jr., 17, of Ethel and Morgan Scott Baggett, 18, of Attala County, have been charged with burglary of a commercial building.

Salem Nasser Abdullah, 32, of Attala County, has been charged with receiving stolen property in connection with the case.

Soft drinks and other convenience food as well as a laptop computer were taken during the burglaries.

The ACSD has also arrested a juvenile for the May break-in at J.D.’s One Stop on Main Street in Ethel.

Lee said the teenager would face charges in juvenile court.

Part of the glass door had been broken into and $40-50 in change as well as cigars and cigarettes were taken.



Thefts

Several people have reported missing items in the County.

Michael Steinkuhler reported a gun with a scope and a radio and speaker system stolen from his vehicle at his home on Attala County Road 1154 on Friday.

Also on Friday Lindell Carr reported he was robbed at gunpoint on Youth Center Road after assisting a black male with automobile trouble.

Lindell reported $20 missing.

Steven Hicks reported his tool box and tools were taken from the porch of his home on Attala County Road 1010 on Monday. The items were valued at $500.



Disturbances

Terry Hannah reported there had been an altercation with her boyfriend, Wallace Loftin, while they were in a vehicle on Wednesday, June 25.

Lee said Loftin is accused of hitting Hannah.

No charges have been filed.

Another disturbance was reported on Monday.

Toby Ellington reported that his wife, Jessica, had assaulted him at the home on Dodge Street in Ethel.

Shanda Williams reported windows were busted on her 1989 Blazer but nothing was taken on Wednesday, June 25.
