Broken windows, stolen truck keep Sheriff's office busy

By Nancy Green

A stolen truck, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, simple assault and trespassing were among charges made by Sheriff William Lee and deputies during the past week.

Charges of trespassing, simple assault and telephone harassment have been filed against Vickie McNeer of Winston County by Luke Skelton who resides near the intersection of Highway 14 east and Highway 19 south, according to the sheriff. He said upon Deputy Tim Nail's arrival at Skelton's residence he reported McNeer striking him in the face and making threats. She has been charged but not apprehended, the sheriff said.

Two incidents of windows being broken on automobiles at Hannah Heights Apt. 16 in Ethel were reported. Ladanyell Triplett reported to Deputy Richie Atkinson that windows were broken on his vehicle parked at his residence. Willie Edwards has been charged, the sheriff said, but has not been apprehended.

Another incident of window breaking at Hannah Heights was reported by Andrew Holman. He told Officer Atkinson, the broken window on the driver's side of his 97 Cavalier was discovered at he started to work on the morning of June 6. Upon his return in the afternoon he reported the back window of his 1983 Chevrolet C-10 was broken. Sheriff Lee said there is a suspect in the two incidents but no arrest has been made.

On June 5, Bud Moore of Kosciusko reported his 1994 International dump truck missing from the area where it was parked near the intersection of Highway 43 south and Highway 14 bypass. Sheriff Lee said anyone having any knowledge of the disappearance of the vehicle is urged to contact his department, 289-5556.

Floyd Evans of Sallis is charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following an altercation with Deputy Atkinson. Atkinson responded to a call made by Ruth Harmon that Evans had started a fight with his brother. Upon Atkinson's arrival he was approached by Evans with loud and abusive cursing.

When told by Atkinson he was under arrest, a brief altercation followed, the sheriff said. He was jailed and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
