Budget hearing set by KCSB; Coaching changes made
The Kosciusko City School Board City School Board approved to advertise the upcoming school year budget hearing for July 3 at 10 a.m. during their Monday night board meeting.
Superintendent David Sistrunk, in his last board meeting before retiring, said although there has been no budget set by the state, the district’s budget has been drafted and it is just an estimate.
Sistrunk said when the Legislature sets the budget, they will adjust figures as needed.
He said he is hopeful that the legislature and the governor can resolve the matter.
Coaching changes
There were several coaching changes made during the meeting.
The board approved to hire Stan McCain as the teacher and head football coach, Chris Richmond as a teacher and assistant football coach.
Veteran coach Kevin Pullen was named athletic director. He replaces Rodney Jones, who retired. The supplement is $2,950.
Dustin Horne will take on soccer coaching next year with a $3,000 supplement.
Assistant baseball coach Ben Dew submitted his resignation to the board and it was accepted. An executive session was held before the board accepted the resignation.
The school board approved the following:
–Change order for $8,300 to the girls softball dugouts. They will be bigger than previously designed to accommodate the team.
–Student lunches will go from $2 to $2.25 for the upcoming school year to make up the difference in the minimum wage pay of the cafeteria employees.
– Authority for McGee to become purchasing agent effective June 9.
–Coaching supplements for the upcoming school year.
–Marie Peeler and Sandra Shivers as teachers at Kosciusko Upper Elementary for the upcoming school year.
–Lisa Williams as an assistant teachers at Kosciusko Lower Elementary, Frances Williams as a cafeteria worker at Kosciusko High School, Jennifer Burns as a physical therapist two days a week and Bobby Rush at the bus shop for the upcoming school year.
–Pay Katrina Overstreet for extended school at Kosciusko Junior High.
– Payment to the following employees for unused leave upon retiring: Margaret Sanders, Rodney Jones, Sammy Hunt, David Sistrunk, Della Jackson and Alberta Fuller.
–Minutes from May 11 meeting and May 13 and 19 special meetings.
–Special Education Project for the 2009-2010 budget.
–Resolution of intent to apply for federal stimulus funding for building projects.
–Accept timber bid on section 16-13-8.
–Accept the depository bid for Merchants & Farmers Bank.
–Bids on Ricoh Ink and Masters from American Coded Products.
–Accept Kayla, Abbey and Boston McCrory to the Kosciusko School District.
–Release Amber Sartain to the Attala County School District.
–Lost and discarded books and video purchased with federal funds during the 2008-2009 school year.
–Resignation of Suzanne Rolison as assistant band director for the upcoming school year.
–Claims docket

–Permission to delete and dispose of items from inventory and removed from general ledger and dispose of according to MS Code.
–Travel for football coaches to attend coaching clinic in Jackson July 15-17.
–Travel for KJHS and KHS cheerleaders for the 09-10 school year.
–Travel for Susan Byars to attend Food Service State Conference in Jackson on July 14-16.
–Travel for girls basketball team to attend Lady Bobcat Shootout in Sebastopol on June 15.
