Indianapolis man tapped to head OWB&G Club

The Oprah Winfrey Boys & Girls Club have found themselves a new director.

Ison Harris, 40, of Indianapolis, Ind., has been chosen by the OWB&G Club Board of Directors to lead the club into the future.

The community is invited to a reception honoring Harris on Thursday, May 14 at the club on Knox Road. Time for the reception will be announced tomorrow.

Harris comes to the Kosciusko by way of Indianapolis, where he was unit director at the Wheeler Boys & Girls Club for almost nine years. He started at Wheeler as a volunteer in 1997 and founded “Sports of the Future,” youth program to promote sportsmanship and faith.

Although he and his wife, Stacy Young Harris, have no children, he has work with youth for the past 13 years volunteering with different organizations throughout Indianapolis.

He has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Mississippi College and presently completing master’s degree in psychology from Martin University in Indianapolis.

Harris is not unfamiliar with Mississippi. He and his family moved here after the death of his father Ison Harris Sr. in 1983 and he completed high school at South Pike in McComb. While in high school, he was an Honorable Mention All-State basketball player and Mississippi All-Star 1986, also MVP of 1986 State 4A Runner-ups Eagles team. In college, he was voted Team Captain his Junior and Senior years.

He is the son of Donnice Harris, of McComb, and is the youngest boy of eight siblings.

He enjoys golfing and bowling in his free time.
