City, county nab Ethel man for stealing truck

The Kosciusko Police Department requested assistance of the Attala County Sheriff’s Department Friday night after a truck driven by Robert Watkins, 26, of Ethel, left the city limits.
The Attala County Sheriff William Lee said deputies followed the truck from Highway 19 North to Highway 35 North and then to Attala County Road 3102 and turned off to Attala County Road 3115.
The truck was found on 3115 and Watkins fled into the wooded area, Lee said.
Lee said the truck was later reported stolen by Rawson’s Body Shop on Highway 43 South along with $200.
Watkins, who was employed by Rawson’s, is charged with felony of taking a motor vehicle by the ACSD and careless driving and fleeing from law enforcement by KPD’s Cpl. Danny Groves.
As of Tuesday, Watkins was in Attala County Jail and no bond had been set.

City Arrests
On Sunday, April 6, Tiffany Dillon, 22, of Kosciusko, was charged with no driver’s license on North Natchez Street by Groves.
Also, on Sunday, Betty Gonzalez, 41, of Kosciusko, was arrested for expired tag, suspended driver’s license and no insurance on South Wells Street by Officer Huey Curry.
Several arrests were made on Saturday. They were Gregory Hutchison, 25, of Kosciusko, speeding, DUI first offense on North Natchez Street by Groves; Daryla Townsend, 25, of Kosciusko, suspended driver’s license on South Natchez St. by Groves; Steven Walden, 26, of Orlando Fla,, public drunk at Wal-Mart by Officer Huey Curry; and Steven Page, 41, of Kosciusko, DUI first offense on Highway 19 North by Groves.
On Friday, Jimmy Strahan, 49, of Vaiden, was charged with suspended driver’s license and DUI first offense on East Jefferson St. by Cpl. Thomas Clark.
Jan Overstreet, 53, of Kosciusko, was arrested for public drunk on West Adams Street by Curry and Mary Smith, 30, of Carthage was charged with suspended driver’s license on South Huntington Street by Officer Phillip Fancher. Both were charged on Friday.
At a check point on Friday, Nicholas Davis, 19, of Kosciusko, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and DUI first offense by Officer Adam Jones, Jamaal Jefferson, 25, of Lexington, was charged with no driver’s license and possession of marijuana by Officer Stan Beall and Claude Simmons, 54, of Sallis, was charged with DUI first offense by Cpl. Dirk Thayer.
On Thursday, April 3, Hannah Davis, 21, of Kosciusko, was arrested for shoplifting first offense at Wal-Mart by Jones.
Also, on Thursday, Dale Hall, Dale Hall, 50, of Kosciusko, was charged with no driver’s license and no insurance on West Jefferson Street by Groves.
Wednesday, April 2, Joe Guyton, 32, of Kosciusko, was arrested for failure to yield and suspended driver’s license on Goodman Street by Cpl. Dirk Thayer and Freddie Smith, 69, of Kosciusko, was charged with careless driving, DUI first offense on Highway 35 Bypass by Thayer.

County reports
On Monday, the ACSD responded to the report of possible gunfire near the Greenlee One Stop on Highway 12. No evidence was found.
Deputies responded to the McCool residence of Valerie Truss on Highway 407 on Sunday.
According to Lee, Truss told deputies that Maxie Dotson was cussing on her porch and had taken her pit bull. The ACSD is waiting for charges to be signed.
William Frazier reported a chain saw missing from his residence on McBride Street in Ethel on Friday.
Henry Dotson reported a 250-gallon propane tank was missing from the Holly Branch Community Center on Monday.
