Superintendent plans to retire during summer

After almost 20 years at the helm of Kosciusko City Schools, Superintendent David Sistrunk said he is ready to retire.

During the Monday night city school board meeting, Sistrunk presented letters to all the board members and said his last day on the job will be June 30.

“I am stepping across the point of no return,” Sistrunk said of heading into retirement.

He thanked the board for tolerating him and allowing him to grow and develop in the position.

Sistrunk said he plans to spend more time with his grandchildren.

“I am stepping down from being ‘Doc’ to ‘Papa Doc’,” he said.

Since he will be retiring, Sistrunk said he will resign from his post on the Mississippi State School Board.

The board approved the following:

– Minutes of December 8 meeting

– Timber bid on section 16-15-6 to T.L. Reid Timber Co., Inc.

– Approve lease contract agreement for new duplicators at each school and copier at Central Office and Alternative School.

– Teacher substitutes: Alisha Whitehead, Jennifer Snuggs, Kayla Nicole Dyer, Sarah Ellen Parish and Jacob Peeler for the current school year and Bobbie Martin as cafeteria substitute.

– Release Roderick Ward from the Kosciusko School District.

– Delete and dispose of financial records according to MS Code for 2001-2002 and food service records for the 2003-2004 school year.

– Travel for math and science teams competition at Mississippi College on Feb. 6 and the scholars bowl at Holmes Community College on Feb. 25

– Travel for Pat Bell and Misty Holder to attend District Test Coordinator Training in Jackson on Feb. 5-6.

– Travel for Peggy Breazeale to attend MASBO workshop in Jackson in Feb. 9-12.

– Travel for Leslie Browning and Sandy McBride to attend an STI meeting in Philadelphia on Jan. 26-27

– Softball and powerlifting schedule and travel for the current school year.

– Travel for Kosciusko High School Band the current semester.
