Local doesn’t understand road numbering system

A number of years ago, I wrote a song entitled – “Twenty Miles of Bad Road Blues”.

I would like to change it up a bit and entitle it “Twenty Miles of Attala County Road Numbering Blues.” Just kidding!

On my quest to get two plates of good ole Attala County volunteer fireman chicken, I would like you to join me on my ride.

Well, we were looking for Attala Road 5053, that was were the chicken plates were Saturday afternoon at the fire station.

We began our ride at the intersection of Highway 35 South and Highway 14.

As we road up 14, we would look for road numbers. This is what we found: road numbers in this order – 1166, 1163, 1030, 1162, 1175, 1177, 1211,1131,1220, 1165, 1163, 1215, 1154, 1217, 1137, 1157, 1156, 1223, 1158, 1155,5047, 5036, 5216, 5115, 5126, and 5202.

I will tell you about our goal 5053 later.

About half way down the road numbering system, I began to feel like there was something strange about this ride.

We were about to give up and reach for the famous cell phone, when we saw a small sign on the right side of the road on Highway 14 that had a picture of an antique fire engine it.

We drove little further and there she was Attala Road 5053. By the way, we sure enjoyed our chicken!

I am confident the Attala County Board of Supervisors will do as they have said, and work with Home Land Security to get a mapping system that all will be proud off.

May God bless our Nation, our great State and Attala County and all her citizens as we march forward for better times for our children and grandchildren.
