I am a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion.
It is True that the word God has been removed from the membership application of the VFW. I am not sure why it was removed but it may be for the same reason you will not find it on other patriotic orgizations applications such as the American Legion, Disable American Veterans or the Purple Heart Association. A lot of comrades including myself do not agree with its removal. I join with Chaplain Hines urging all veterans to express a strong voice against removing the Supreme Creator from any organization.
I would like to point out that removing the word God from our membership application does not remove God from our VFW organization. VFW meetings have in the past, and will continue to begin with a prayer of thanks before we eat. Prior to our business meeting the bible is opened and a prayer inspiring us to worthy deeds and sound decisions is given by the Post Chaplain. A prayer is offered during our meeting to bless the children and families in our VFW National Home for Children. All of our VFW meetings close with a prayer to God.
I have the privilege of serving as quartermaster for Stonestreet – Rone Post 1983 of Kosciusko in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. We have a group of fine god fearing men, and the auxiliary is also a fine organization, too.
