Three executors of the estate of the late Mrs. Allie B. Jones (Mrs. Montfort) of Bristow, Okla., delivered a check in the amount of $102,000 for the use of the new Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital which was bequeathed by the former Attalan to her native county hospital. The check was brought to Kosciusko Monday and handed over to John Clifton Lucas, Trust Officer and Vice President of the Merchants and Farmers Bank.

Drawing attention to the approaching Thanksgiving season is the annual Turkey Shoot to be held in Kosciusko at the National Guard Armory Tuesday, Nov. 24. The event is sponsored again this year by the Kosciusko Jaycees, with proceeds to be applied on furnishing a room at the new Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. Contestants will fire in groups of 10, with each contestant to fire three shots in each group. High scorers in each match will be awarded a turkey, just in time for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

Susan Mary Potts of Kosciusko, a junior student at Wheaton College, has been named to the scholastic honor list earning year honors for the 1958-59 school year.

Results of the annual “Who’s Who” elections in Kosciusko High School have been announced by Virgil Melohn, high school principal. Named to the coveted titles of Mr. and Miss Kosciusko High School were Stanley Hartness, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Hartness, and Jennie Lou Dickens, daughter of Mr. and Ms. Paul Bain Dickens.

“The United States has the most powerful military force of any nation in the world and I feel that there is no chance that any nation or combination of nations will make an attack on us, but we must keep up our guard.” This statement was made here Tuesday night by Senator John C. Stennis at a joint meeting of the Fred Wasson Legion Post 44 and its Ladies Auxiliary, also attended by numerous guests at Kosciusko’s Country Club.

A future for America, bright with peace and prosperity, was predicted by Senator James O. Eastland at the annual meeting of bankers composing Group Four, Mississippi Bankers Association in the National Guard Armory Monday night. Senator Eastland was introduced by Clarence E. Morgan, Jr., president of Kosciusko’s Merchants & Farmers Bank. Presiding was Wallace Poole, vice president of Group Four.

Nov. 15, 1984
Ballet Mississippi comes to Kosciusko tonight. The performance, which begins at 7:30 in the Kosciusko High School auditorium, is the first presentation of the newly organized Mid-Mississippi Arts Council and the Mississippi Arts Commission.

Unifirst came out the victor in the 1984 Kosciusko Soccer organization season in the under 10 class with a perfect 6-0 record. Members of the team are Shannon Denny, Rachel Newell, Amanda Rasberry, Christopher Pope, Joey Walbert, Brad Shaffer, Jay Jenkins, Scott Watkins, Stephen Gant, Trey Lewis, Eric Adams and Angel Albin.

Dr. Michael Brunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brunt of Kosciusko, recently presented a scientific paper at the 70th annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons in San Francisco, Calif. The paper dealt with his research which involved the evaluation of a new diagnostic test for pancreatic endocrine tumors.

Willie B. McCrory Jr. and Louis Gowan were elected to three year terms on the Attala County Co-op board of directors at the group’s annual meeting Monday night. They succeeded Charles Pinkard and William E. Jones on the board. Other board members whose terms did not expire this year are Dan Oakes, David Dodd, Butch McMillan, William Kimbrough and Tony Aldy.

Final plans have been completed for the wedding of Miss Cindy Jo Pinkard and Larry Joe Moyer to be held Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. in the McCool Baptist Church.

Kosciusko Sporting Goods team won the under eight division of the Kosciusko Soccer Organization’s 1984 season with a 6-0-1 record. Members of the team are Tamara Canty, Kristy Davis, Kimberly Lyle, Alan Warrington, P.J. Overstreet, Shawn Blaylock, Bobby Smith, Shontaz Brooks, Jeremy Loden, Steven Rea, Cory Blaylock, Whit Lewis. Coach for the team is Sylvia Blaylock.
