French Camp Harvest Festival: Rainy weather doesn’t stop fundraising event

The dreariness of the weather which spread over last Saturday’s Harvest Festival at French Camp Academy failed to dampen the spirits of bidders with more than $18,000 brought in from the auction.

“The day went well,” said Lance Ragsdale, Vice President of Development, at FCA.

In the historic district adjacent to the Natchez Trace Parkway, sorghum making took place and arts and crafts were offered in the Log Cabin. Throughout the day, a trolley carried visitors for tours of the historic district downtown and to all facilities on the campus.

French Camp native Tony Thomas served as auctioneer in the gymnasium where a variety of handmade items were sold. In the country store, jam, jelly, and produce items were offered.

At noon, due to threatening weather, lunch was served on the back deck of the dining hall. Usually, long tables are set up outside for the mid-day feast.
