Back in Time:Annual Pioneer Day held in French Camp

By Nancy Green

The pages of time turned back at French Camp Saturday with the historical area adjacent to the Natchez Trace Parkway becoming a pioneer scene.

Annual Pioneer Day brought visitors from throughout the area. There were Civil War reenactments by Turner’s Battery Co. ‘C’ 1st Mississippi Light Artillery. Several groups with the Tombigbee Pioneer Group demonstrated cooking over an open fire, blacksmithing, chair caning, making items from leather and other activities reminiscent of olden days.

There was music, food, and sales of arts and crafts throughout the day.
