Horne’s green thumb hobby featured on tour

Gardens surrounding the home of Tim and Brenda Horne, 116 Highland Drive, will be shown on Saturday’s Spring Tour of Homes and Gardens, sponsored by the Attala Historical Society.

Known for her “green thumb” and a flair for arrangement of her plants, she has used her favorite perennials and lots of roses in the landscape.

When moved to the Highland Drive residence, Brenda said they cut pine trees and unearthed another yard back of the house.

She names her garden as her only hobby and said it’s a stress relief. “When you can’t afford a therapist, buy a plant,” she said.

Day lilies, which she said have been acquired over a 12 year period, are used among her plantings. Some of them were given to her by her aunt in South Georgia.

Having completed the Master Gardener course, she has used her expertise in placing plants throughout the garden to add interest and color.

The gardens will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.

After a stroll through the gardens, lemonade and cookies will be served under the veranda.
