Those taking part in the Attala Historical Society’s Spring Tour of Homes and Gardens on Saturday will see the charm of the Old South in the Acadian style home of Brady and Nikki Richardson.
The Richardsons designed the home, giving great thought to the way they live, and how they flow in the house to ensure no backtracking. They were assisted by Becky Lawrence in plans for the interior spaces and porches in an effort to get the same feeling as was provided by the Acadian style home from which they moved on North Natchez Street. The home is located on Attala Road 2213 just off the Old Natchez Trace.
Built by Roberts Construction and using the architecture of Hays Town’s Louisiana homes as a guide, the front of the home borrows from a John Tee Southern Living design.
The use of French doors on both levels serves to blend the exterior and interior spaces.
Burgundy, red and black dominate the color scheme throughout. First evidence of her colors are evident in the keeping room, adjacent to the kitchen and breakfast area with its red faux painted walls.
The den with its vaulted ceiling is bounded by a railing along the perimeter of the second level. The red and black color scheme dominates the décor.
The formal dining room is located on the front, to the right of the entry. French doors open to a covered porch. Mrs. Richardson said easy access to the porch makes it ideal for entertaining. Heart pine floors were salvaged room a pre-Civil War hotel in Camden.
Mrs. Richardson has chosen the office to display her collection of elephants. They are incorporated into the décor, which follows an Oriental theme.
The Oriental theme is continued in the master bedroom’s bed cover and accents. The spacious, adjoining master bath features a heated, onyx floor.
The guest room with adjoining bath is also on the first level
Found on the second level are bedrooms of Layna, 4, Malone and Maddie, 22 months, a play room and theater. Another area features a wrapping closet providing easy access to all supplies when wrapping gifts.
Kosciusko artists Doris Belk, Laura Horn, and Roxanne Routt did much of the art throughout the home.
