The former Louisiana’s Restaurant building, 408 North Wells Street, is in the process of being converted to a health club, according to new owner Britt Barnes of Carthage. Health Club LLC, expected to open in mid-October, will offer group exercises, a women’s only gym, a co-ed gym, a cardio room, a pro shop and tanning beds. Dressing rooms will be equipped with showers. During peak hours of operation, care will be offered for exercisers who bring their children. Barnes, who also operates Health Club LLC in Carthage, said he will initially employ six people.

Freddie’s closes
Freddie’s Restaurant on Veterans Memorial Drive, owned by Freddie George, closed Thursday night. George cited lack of volume, overhead and other expenses contributing to the closing. After extensive remodeling, George had operated the restaurant for the past 16 months. He thanked customers for their support.
“Thursday was a sad day. We had a lot of faithful customers who came expressing their regret at the closing,” said Sandra George, restaurant hostess.

Property cleanup
House on the property at the intersectoon of Veterans Memorial Drive and East Jefferson Street, owned by Larry Caraway of Kosciusko Realty, has been torn down and the lot is being cleaned. Caraway said he has no immediate plans for the property, which is zoned residential. He said the cleanup is being done in an effort to present a better image of the city as the property borders a major entrance.
