Two Attala County men charged in Jackson slaying

Star Herald Report

Two Attala County men made their first appearance in Jackson Municipal Court on Friday facing charges of capitol murder.

Stephen Adams of Kosciusko and William E. Fleming of Sallis, both 20, along with Kerrick Nash, 31, are charged with two counts of capitol murder each in the Magic Mirrors Barber and Beauty Salons slaying Monday, Oct. 19.

The motive behind the shootings appears to be robbery and led to the deaths of Christopher Bowling and Gerrick Watson, 36. The longtime Jackson residents were cleaning up the shop on 3943 Hanging Moss Road at the time of the shooting.

Watson was shot once in the leg and once in the chest. Bowling was shot multiple times in the chest and back.

Bowling co-owned the shop with his mother, Margaree Bowling and Watson was a barber at the salon.

This is not Adams first run-in with the law. According to the Mississippi Department of Correction, he is on probation for stealing $682 from a gas station in Attala County. He was charged with grand larceny.

The Clarion-Ledger contributed to this report.
