KCS approve new football coach, take next step on building projects

The Kosciusko City School board approved to advertise for several building projects Tuesday night.
Superintendent David Sistrunk presented rough sketches of ideas for Kosciusko Lower Elementary, the Kosciusko High School Football field and the newly purchased land for a girls’ softball field at an estimated cost of $1,325,000 at the January meeting.
Money for these projects was in the reserves and would not cost taxpayers any additional funds.
New coaches
The board approved Trey Rolison as the head football coach and physical education teacher.
Rolison’s first official day on the job was Tuesday.
Thomas Brooks was named head basketball coach as well.
The board approved the following:
– School calender for 2008-2009
– Minutes from March 6 meeting
– Angie Dees as an assistant teacher at Kosciusko Middle Elementary for the rest of the school year.
– Teachers for the 2008-2009 school year
– Non-certified personnel for the 2008-2009 school year
– School Resource Officer Mark Gilmore for the 2008-2009 school year
– The following new teachers – Stephanie Lees, English; Suzanne Rolison, band director at Kosciusko Junior High; Trey Rolison, coach and physical education; Jana Guillotte, English I and II; Leigh Ann Rodgers, pre-GED; and Shane Rodgers, assistant coach and drug education.
– Penny Mitchell to after school enrichment at KJH
– Sara Williams, Tara Tavares and Amy McLellan as substitute teachers for the remaining school year
– Permission to advertise for depository bids for the 2008-2009 school year
– Claims docket
– Financial report for March
– Permission to delete and dispose of items from inventory and remove from general ledger and dispose of according to MS code.
– Travel for Jamie Sample’s AP Biology class and some advance biology students to attend “Our Body” at the Gulf Coast Exploreum and view the IMAX film “The Human Body in Mobile, Ala., on May 9.
– Travel for Jackie McElwain to take trigonometry classes to tour the Mississippi State University engineering department on April 21 and for the Beta Club to tour the Mississippi Sports Museum and Ag Museum in Jackson on May 5.
– Travel for Denise Corbett, Robin Jones and Rachel Russell to attend Mississippi Rising Conference in Biloxi on June 2-5
– Travel for Jerrelyn Jackson and Sherry Dean to attend Implementing AR II conference in Jackson April 28.
The board also went into executive session for personnel matters.
